How would you describe yourself in 6 words or less?
Tenacious, reflective, passionate about lifelong learning
Tell us about your business and what inspired you to start it:
I felt that the learning and development (L&D) world had become somewhat disconnected from the immediate needs of businesses. I kept hearing from business leaders that they wanted agile, micro-learning solutions tailored to their employees' real-time needs. However, traditional L&D approaches often involved lengthy consultations and planning phases. My passion lies in experiential learning, and I wanted to develop short, situational learning opportunities that employees could relate to—rather than relying on long, theory-heavy training sessions.
Tell us a little bit more about you:
I live in the beautiful Causeway Coast and Glens area of Northern Ireland, where I enjoy walking on our blue flag beaches. My career has spanned various sectors, including manufacturing, retail, public services, academia, and private industries. I’ve done everything from working night shifts while raising my daughter to coaching CEOs of multinational financial institutions.
Curiosity has always been a driving force in my life, much like my father, and it’s something I’ve harnessed throughout my career. After studying work-based learning at Queen's University and completing qualifications in learning and development, as well as coaching, I knew that this was where I could build my career.
I’m also blessed with four grandchildren, whose thirst for knowledge and constant curiosity inspire me daily.
Fill us in on your female founder journey:
As a relatively new founder, I’ve had to quickly learn the operational side of running a business—from banking and tax requirements to marketing and sales. While I’ve enjoyed the challenge, I’ve also had moments of self-doubt about handling everything from the ground up.
I’ve realised that I’m more resourceful than I initially thought and that having a strong network is crucial. I’ve learned that many people are generous with their time, and asking for help is not a weakness. Additionally, I’ve discovered that stepping back and pausing often allows me to focus on what truly adds value to me and my business.
Why have you joined AwakenHub?
I joined AwakenHub to connect with like-minded individuals who are also looking to bring their unique skills, products, and services to the market. I hope to learn from others’ experiences, build a supportive network, and contribute actively to the community.
What is your 'ask'?
I would like to explore how technology can help scale my business and how to develop an interactive version of my micro-skills tool.
What values or principles do you live by? Who or what inspires you?
Two of my core values are curiosity and collaboration. I believe that no one person has all the answers, which makes life an exciting journey of exploration, questioning, and learning. I live by the law of abundance and work relentlessly to help myself and others push past the limits we often impose on ourselves.
One quote I live by is from Viktor Frankl:
"Between stimulus and response, there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom."
Where do you see yourself in 12 months and 5 years?
In 12 months, I will be working with 3-5 clients, delivering real-time micro-training to their staff and gathering testimonials for my services.
In 5 years, I envision having an interactive skills platform that hosts a variety of learning providers, catering to a broad spectrum of skill requirements for professionals in their roles.
What are your top three tips for other women founders?
Emotions are data—use them wisely. They can help inform your decisions but don’t let them trip you up.
Your network is your most valuable resource.
Don’t be afraid to say, "I don’t know," but make sure to find out.
Six words to live by:
Curiosity, Candour, Collaboration, Communication, Compassion, Integrity
