Got Wings! AwakenHub & AwakenAngels at the Embassy of Ireland London
AwakenHub & AwakenAngels were hosted by the Ambassador of Ireland to Great Britain, Martin Fraser on evening of 7 October to share our mission to shift the dial for Irish women founders and investors creating equity in the founder eco-system across the island of Ireland.
The Ambassador welcomed an open dialogue on how we can collectively increase the current figures of 2% investment in women founded companies globally and 7% of women angel investors across Europe.
16 AwakenHub women founded companies from MedTech, CyberTech, SportsTech, Financial services, Health & Lifesciences, AgriFood, a barter platform and also sustainable fashion and FashionTech travelled to the event to make vital connections in the UK to potential clients and investors.
AwakenHub & AwakenAngels CoFounder Sinead Crowley shared our mission and vision saying 'We don't believe in hurling from the ditch and want to be the change that is needed so took it upon ourselves to build the first women led angel investment syndicate investing in women founded startups on the island of Ireland'.
Sinead was followed by a panel discussion hosted by Mary McKenna, serial entrepreneur and angel investor who made history in 2023 as European Female Angel of the Year followed by first Irish person to win UKBAA overall Angel Investor of the Year in a 24 hour period. Mary spoke about the 'groundbreaking nature of AwakenAngels which allows women and men to start investing from 2000 pounds or euros in a bid to democratise and open up the world of angel investing to the many not just the few.'
Niamh Dooley, CoFounder Biasol, Joann Rhodes, Angel Investor & CEO HIRANI and Clare Ryan, Cofounder of ITUS highlighted the talent, global ambition and challenges for women founders who face systemic bias to building scalable businesses with global ambition.
AwakenAngels is looking for men and women interested in starting their angel investor journey or diversifying their investor portfolio by joining our syndicate and supporting innovative and exciting women founded companies across Ireland.
Irish connected founders across Britain and our Diaspora are also invited to join our women founder community AwakenClub.
With thanks to the Irish Post and Irish World for featuring us in their recent papers to raise more awareness of our mission with Irish diaspora across Britain.
