How would you describe yourself in 6 words or less?
Driven, Friendly, Ambitious, Creative, Fashionable
What prompted you to start your business?
Over the past few years, I became increasingly aware of the damaging effects the fashion industry has on both the planet and people. I knew I wanted to be part of the solution. During my time at university and working for Designer Exchange, I discovered my love for the circular economy. I realised that in order to break our toxic relationship with fast fashion, we need to change how we consume. I noticed many people wanted access to stunning designer handbags but couldn’t afford the steep prices, and renting them for events made perfect sense. Rent & Renew aims to provide customers access to a curated selection of designer handbags for a fraction of the retail price. It’s ideal for weddings, events, or simply experimenting with new styles affordably and conveniently.
Tell us a little more about you.
Originally from the UK, I moved to Ireland for university and have lived in Dublin ever since. I studied International Business and Languages (French and Spanish) at university, spending time in Spain and Paris, which made me fluent in both languages. It was during this time that I discovered my passion for sustainability and the circular economy. Working part-time for Designer Exchange fueled my love for designer handbags and fashion. Creativity has always been a part of me—when I need to unwind, I read, paint, or write creatively. I’m also training for my first sprint triathlon this summer! Growing up, I always knew I wanted to pursue something entrepreneurial, and after some trial and error, I found my calling with Rent & Renew, which I launched in July after developing the business plan in January.
Fill us in on your female founder journey.
I’m lucky to have had incredible support from Designer Exchange, not only financially but also through advice and guidance. My dad, who’s been through many entrepreneurial journeys himself, has also been a great mentor. Launching Rent & Renew was a fantastic feeling, but the journey has been full of unexpected challenges. One key learning is that consumer behaviour doesn’t always align with consumer intentions. People love the idea of renting, but getting them to follow through has been a challenge. The last few months have been a learning process, and I now know where to focus my efforts and how to communicate the value of renting to customers. Being a female founder is empowering—it helps me connect with my customers, as I share many of their motivations and values.
How did you hear about AwakenHub and what prompted you to apply for SheGenerate?
I heard about SheGenerate through my dad, who attended an AwakenHub event and thought it would be a great community for me. After looking into it, I agreed—it’s exactly the type of network I was seeking.
What have you gotten out of the SheGenerate process?
I’m eager to learn as much as possible from the experienced entrepreneurs and expand my network. I’m particularly looking forward to hearing about other women’s journeys and learning from their experiences.
What does success look like to you in 12 months and in 5 years?
In 12 months, I aim for Rent & Renew to be a key player in the Irish fashion rental market. In 5 years, I envision expanding our services and looking at opportunities to take the business abroad.
What can the SheGenerate community do for you?
As a 23-year-old just starting my entrepreneurial journey, I’d love to hear any pearls of wisdom from others who have been through it all. What advice would you give someone who feels like they’re in the deep end?
As a founder, what are your non-negotiables?
If I ever doubt myself, I pause and ask: "Is the concept right? Do I believe in it?" If the answer is yes, I know I’m on the right track. One of my favourite quotes, from Rachel Doyle, founder of Arboretum, is: "A problem is merely a solution turned inside out."
